What data we collect and why
Interest list
When you leave your email address on our website to hear when the OBDongle becomes available, we store:
- your email address;
- the language of the website you signed up on;
- the date and time you signed up.
We use this data only to send you a confirmation of your sign-up and to let you know when the OBDongle is available. We do not use it for other marketing and we do not sell it. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time by emailing us at info@codewire.nl. We then remove your email address from the list.
We keep this data until you withdraw your consent, and no longer than 12 months after the OBDongle becomes available.
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics, a service of Google, to see how visitors use our website, for example which pages are visited and how visitors found us. Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you view, the website that referred you, your browser and device type, and your approximate location (country or city). Google Analytics does not store your full IP address.
We use this information only in aggregated form to improve our website. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the use of our website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Google keeps this data for at most 14 months.
You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting data by blocking cookies in your browser or by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Protection against abuse
To protect our sign-up form against spam and abuse, our server briefly counts the number of submissions per IP address. This count is kept in memory only, is never written to a database, and is discarded after at most one hour. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping our website secure (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Cookies
Our website itself does not set cookies. Google Analytics places the following cookies:
- _ga: distinguishes unique visitors. Expires after 2 years.
- _ga_HWR39MSGP5: keeps track of your session. Expires after 2 years.
You can delete or block these cookies at any time in your browser settings.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We only share it with service providers that help us run the website, and only as far as they need it to do so. We have agreements with these providers that oblige them to protect your data.
- Our hosting provider, which runs our website and stores the interest list on servers within the European Union.
- Resend (Resend, Inc., United States), which sends our emails, such as the confirmation of your sign-up.
- Google (Google Ireland Ltd. and Google LLC, United States), which provides Google Analytics. See Google's privacy policy.
We may also share your data when we are legally required to, for example at the request of a government authority.
Transfers outside the European Economic Area
Resend and Google may process data in the United States. For Google, these transfers are covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. For Resend, they are covered by the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against loss and unauthorised access. Our website is only available over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and access to the interest list is limited to the people at Codewire who need it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have incorrect data corrected;
- have your data deleted;
- restrict the processing of your data;
- receive your data in a structured, commonly used format;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interest;
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting processing that took place before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@codewire.nl. We will respond within one month. We may ask you to confirm your identity before handling your request.
Complaints
If you have a complaint about how we handle your personal data, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In the Netherlands this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. If you live in another EU country, you can also contact the supervisory authority there.
Automated decisions and children
We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing. Our website is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy, for example when our website or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. We recommend checking this page from time to time.
